Find new family connections!

Welcome to our digital meeting place for families of children with disabilities! On our platform, families can connect with each other one-on-one. You can read more below about how it works.

What is Our Normal’s social platform?

The meeting place is a digital contact platform open to families with children who have different diagnoses and/or disabilities. The service makes it possible for families to find each other based on various aspects – such as diagnosis, interests, age, location and more. Here, it goes without saying that we see each other as individuals first, and that a diagnosis is only one part of who we are.

The service does not offer discussion forums or general advice for families – the focus is entirely on enabling individual connections. Between parents, children and siblings.

The platform enables family-to-family connections. Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up for free
Use the links above to sign up with your email and a password of your choice. Then just confirm your account via the email we’ll send you.
  • Create your family presentation
Choose a profile name, a photo, and tags that describe your family – such as experiences, your children’s ages, and interests. On your profile page, you can also share your family story – entirely on your own terms.
  • Done!
Ready to find and message other families? They can find you too. A new family friend might be just a click away!

FAQ about the digital social platform

Who can see our family profile?

Family profiles are only visible to other registered members, and your own profile page is protected by your username and password. The information cannot be accessed by anyone without an account and is not searchable via search engines like Google.

How do I contact other families?

You contact another family using the platform’s messaging feature. When you send a message, the other family receives an email notification and can reply through the same messaging function.

How do I save family contacts?

If you find a family you might want to connect with in the future, you can choose “Follow this family.” This saves a reminder of their profile to your own page, under the section “Families I Follow.”

How is info about diagnoses or disabilities shown in a profile?

Diversity in abilities related to mobility, communication, learning, and/or concentration?
A specific diagnose or disability such as visual or hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, chromosome disorder, muscular disease, Dravet syndrome, Williams syndrome, autism, rare disease, Asperger’s, epilepsy, intellectual disability, physical disability, ADHD? Or something else that is simply part of your family’s everyday life?

To indicate the diagnoses/disabilities your family has experience with, you can choose to describe them in general terms or be more specific. As a family, you decide the level of detail, but keep in mind – the more specific you are, the easier it is for others to find and connect with you.

Is Our Normal’s digital social platform free to use?

Yes, Our Normal’s digital meeting place is free of charge and does not involve any recurring or fixed monthly fees.

How can you help other families find new connections through Our Normal’s platform?

We truly appreciate your interest in helping raise awareness about our platform for connecting families. By sharing our message, you support families in finding one another and building meaningful, lasting connections.

To assist you, we’ve prepared a communications toolkit with resources for spreading the word about Our Normal’s platform. You can read more and order the material here.
